For the beginner, here are some of the basic crocheting abbreviations to get to know. You will see these abbreviations used in just about every crocheting pattern you pick up, so we hope this will help you on your way!

   ch st = chain stitch                                      lp(s) = loop(s)
           sl st = slip stitch                                         mm = millimeters
               yo = yarn over                                            sts = stitches
         sp = space                                                    rd = round
         sc = single crochet                                      rep = repeat
     dc = double crochet                                    tog = together
   hdc = half-double crochet                         beg = beginning
   tr = treble crochet                                      RS = Right Side
     trc = triple crochet                                     WS = Wrong Side
         sk = skip
     pat st = pattern stitch

Hook sizes will also vary. Here are a few of the most commonly used sizes:

                        E / 3.50mm
            Crochet Hooks                 F / 3.75mm
            G / 4mm
H / 5mm
